Surf was about the same as yesterday butt with better conditions.  Still not worth it.

Predictions

Thursday is game day.  The spread as of today was 21 points.  Joe Moore is calling UH, I say #14 USC, spread seems reasonable.  I don't think they look ready at all.

For the Wahine Classic, Wahine all the way, they seem to be settling in butt far from being true contenders..  Seem's like Mafua is a blog reader because she made the adjustments yesterday against UCLA and former UH Volley Ass Coach (and one time SO surfer) Mike Sealy.  I think Uiato still has an edge but would settle for Mafua's experience at this point in the position competition.

BJ Penn, I think it's time to retire.  He seems to have lost his edge... no doubt he can get it back, he's a talented fighter and all, butt when you're not there, you're not there.

Again to Waipio, my father flew in from LA with them this afternoon.  It was CRAZY!!!

Michelle Wie wins again... I think she's one of few if not 2 non-foreigners to win a tournament this year.  Btw - what's up with her and Christina Kim... bow chica wow wow... itaiii!

Well we lost, couldn't squeak out another win, looks like the komeback kids used all their get out of jail free cards. 

The team looked tired from the get go butt put together a great effort behind pitcher Maltezzo.  Way to go team!

Went down early to sneak a session in, found it high tide, tiny, windy, mushy and filling fast.  Thought it was going to be a small contest butt there was a LOT of tents going up. 

After talking with Lisa I decided to go to Leonard's for some malasada's and then headed home for the game.

My prediction is that they've got this one.  Japan's pitching for the most part is slower than what they've been seeing, with a lot of stuff directly over the plate.  Benefitting from their outing against Georgia's 85mph heaters, their bats should remain if not get hotter than ever.

If they can pitch around Japan and keep their defense up they should be fine.

Japan's defense is pretty solid and should keep Hawaii off the bags with less to no hit batters and walks.  For them they'll need to pitch more aggressively and make Hawaii earn their way on base... blah blah just LOSE!!!

Lost, Uiato vs. Mafua

Didn't watch the fight, wound up down at Ha Noodle House down by Young's Fishmarket for some pho with my mother and saw Thomas.

Then continued on to watch the Wahine play.  Pretty new team with 4 starting freshmen.  Definitely looks like a rebuilding year.  Danileson is still the all-star, Ka'aihue the libero seems to have improved a bunch from last year along with middle blocker Hewitt.

But the spot that will seriously decide Hawaii's fate is the setter position.  The back up freshmen Uiato is GUUD!  To me it's a no-brainer, her in and Mafua OUT!  Uiato has a good tempo on her set and her ball control and placement is superb. 

Mafua may be a little bigger, experienced, with a quicker tempo, but none of that matters because she caves at game time.  Her sets are rushed, predictable, too low for good blocking teams, and not nearly placed as well.  Take one for the team and go to back row duties like the setter did before you.

Hawaii 10 run rules them 10-OH!  The unknown Hawaii Ace went bell to bell pitching a 2 hit shut out AND came in to STEAL home for #10 at the bottom of the 5th to seal the deal.  And importantly resting what's left of the eligible pitching staff.

Now I'm just hoping BJ gets a K-OH!

Butt Kicking...

Hope it's the theme for the day... got mine yesterday.  Before Wes left I stopped by for pau hana session, he had some ONO mussel poke from Sack n Save, so yesterday I bought.  Was ono but got a bad one.

The curse of having a flat and toned stomach... the cramps are unbelievable, and then pulls hard on your back.  Just resting today, stomach's a little funny and my back is sore.

Good day for a rest, we got LL Baseball and BJ Penn!  Kick Butt Guys!!!

Waipi-OH!

Waipio becomes the first in tournament history to battle it out of the loser bracket and into title contention.  The best in the West will go against the South East Conference power Texas.

What a game!  Hawaii truly did it the hard way overcoming a 4-0 defiicit and a 13 y/o, 6ft tall pitching ace clocking speeds around 84mph, to clench a shot at the title 5-12.

Hawaii used their "Iceman" yesterday and was inelligible to pitch today resulting in a well coached pitching crew, utilizing 4 pitchers keeping 3 under 19 pitches each leaving them elligible to pitch tom'w (rule - 20+ and they have to rest 1 day).  It also included allowing one of them to catch a few balls to allow him to come back in to pitch again.

I hope they replay... 2 real highlights:

2B Akau making a solo double play, fielding the ball between 1st and 2nd, tagging the advancing runner with his throwing arm and then throwing the other out at 1st (announcer said MLB's can't even do that).

And when Diesel Desa leveled the catcher on his way home.  A play that would've been a standard single had no one been on base, turned into a triple when they tried to make the play at home. 

The biased announcers called Hawaii the drip that wouldn't go away.  Teams thought it would be an easy win.  But did go on to say Hawaii's been to the championship twice and brought home the hardware both times.

Surf was small but cleaner than yesterday, slow and barely a foot.  Contest at SO, stay home watch baseball!

I had a pretty off morning.  Woke up late, dogs jumped on me to wake me up to go out. 

Messed up my whole morning stretch routine I started every morning, 5 minutes, really helps my back.

Got down to the surf and was small and mushy eaten by the tide, with some windy periods... so I went for a coffee and hash brown and McD's before going out.

Got out and couldn't get into it.  I caught my first wave and it wasn't 'til I was going down the wave when I realized what I was doing, then was kooking out.

Then Aunty scolded me.

Then my 5 year clean driving record was ruined when a kook dropped in.  I took off deep and couldn't see around the section.  I beat it and wanted to go off the lip and BANG!  Crystal and Howard said it was scary.  Board's okay, just got some red paint on the bottom.  He's lucky... I cut back hard and fast with the skegs out of the water and bailed to avoid SERIOUS injury to him and my SUB.  

Oh well just had a good lunch and headed for a nap!  Definitely getting better.

So Crystal is kind of set on teaching English in Korea as apart of a program.  We talked about it last weekend, she brought it up because she convinced me around this time last year not to do it but now was looking for company. 

She researched it.  Said there's a school on an island off the peninsula with SURF!  Better than the breaks on the mainland with warmer water.  It's EMPTY because the Koreans don't like the sun... sounds like vampires.

Anyways it would be like a year away so I said I'd throw in my application if she does and see what happens, I can always bailout...

Meanwhile gotta join "Big Dawg" in watching Korean soaps.

Surf was a good angle at SO in the clean 1ft range.  Not as big as I saw it yesterday from Kam and not much bigger than yesterday... sad to say it's on the way down already!

Don't come tom'w.  Follow Jonny's example and get the oama fishing gear ready for the weekend... might as well got a contest at SO... I hope it's FLAT!  Well that and Pres is gone.

Well I'm starting my weekend already!  Looks like I can get my oama gear ready AND catch whatevers left of this bump.  Tuff life!

Came In!

Well the bump came in.  Nice conditions, maybe about to a foot this morning.  Seemed like it got bigger from my view up at Kamehameha.  You should all come tom'w because of the contest at SO this weekend. 

I can't go out tom'w, I gotta put up a computer lab at KS, need to clean the truck out and stuff... off Thu-Sun!

What also came in were the oama's.  Not into the Alamo parkside yet butt they were pulling out of the harbor side this morning.  They said was from yesterday.
